{@} Jake Rosholt vs Anthony Johnson Live Spot Line :-

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight Anthony Johnson, who recently ditched the 170-pound weight class to compete in a division better suited for his frame, will trade blows with fellow Octagon veteran Jake Rosholt at Xtreme Fight Night 9 on Sept. 21, 2012 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa in Catoosa, Oklahoma.

While September 22nd will feature a light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Vitor Belfort at UFC 152, the night before might see one light heavyweight fighter make his case for a return to the octagon.

At the XFL 9 event, former UFC fighters Anthony Johnson and Jake Rosholt will square off in the main event and I think the winner should get the call to rejoin the UFC light heavyweight division.

Looking at both guys, they didn’t have terrible careers inside the octagon. Johnson was cut not because he struggled inside the cage, but because he struggled on the scales while trying to cut what seemed like a million pounds. Now that Johnson has decided he will fight at light heavyweight for the foreseeable future, his weight issues should be behind him.

Since his release from the UFC, Johnson has gone 2-0 including a win over UFC veteran David Branch at a 195-pound catchweight. In his light heavyweight debut, Johnson took out Esteves Jones early in the second round at Titan FC 24. Johnson now holds a 12-4 professional record and is 7-2 in his past nine fights. The two losses during that time are to current title challenger Belfort and former welterweight title contender Josh Koscheck.

A lot has also changed in the UFC since Johnson’s release. Now more than ever, the UFC is looking for guys who can become stars and Johnson is just that. He has the appearance and skills to make waves at 205. Not to mention that they are quickly running out of contenders for Jon Jones and Johnson could easily pick up a couple of wins to get into that title picture.

The UFC basically told Johnson to get his act together when they released him this past January. The UFC is easy to forgive guys and a win over Rosholt by Johnson could easily earn him a phone call from Joe Silva.

Let’s not begin sleeping on Rosholt though. The former collegiate wrestler also holds a 12-4 (1 NC) professional record and is 6-2 with 1 no contest since his release. The thing that should make Rosholt appealing to the UFC is the fact that his fights very rarely go to the final bell. In his 17 career fights, just one has gone the distance. And while he did lose his last time out, a win over Johnson should cap off a regional run that could bring him back to the big stage.

It’s no guarantee, but I’m confident that the winner of this bout will get the phone call they’ve been waiting for since their release papers. And with the UFC having cards demolished by injuries, a guy like Johnson or Rosholt could be a good fit for a replacement opponent.

Now if this fight is boring as hell or somebody misses weight, I’m looking at you “Rumble”, then this entire post was for not
