The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 16 live finale is set to blow the roof off "The Joint" from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino tomorrow night (Dec. 15, 2012) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Join resident psychic Nostradumbass for a preview and breakdown of all the main card FX fights.

That's right folks, Nostradumbass is back for a second straight day with UFC predictions.

In fact, I don't think I've done two Dumbasses in one week since I bagged and tagged the Scagnetti sisters following our church's chicken and waffle dinner back in August of 2009.

Two fives still make a 10, as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, we have a another night of fights ahead of us as The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 16 ties a ribbon around its season with a live finale featuring Roy Nelson vs. Matt Mitrione from "The Joint" at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

And let's not forget the welterweight tournament final between Mike Ricci and Colton Smith.

MMAmania.com will provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the main card action on fight night (Sat., Dec. 15, 2012), which is slated to air at 9 p.m. ET on FX. The latest quick updates of the live action will begin to flow earlier than that around 6 p.m. ET with the "Prelims" bouts on Facebook and FUEL TV.

Shall we?

265 lbs.: Roy Nelson (17-7) vs. Matt Mitrione (5-1)

Nostradumbass predicts: For Roy Nelson, winning TUF 10 was more of a feather in his cap than it was a major career accomplishment, especially when taking into account the level of talent he was up against. Even in the live finale opposite Brendan Schaub, he was a considerable favorite.

For good reason.

"Big Country" has extensive experience on the regional circuit against formidable opposition. The difficulty for the jiu-jitsu wizard was convincing the mixed martial arts (MMA) fan base he was a real threat at 265 pounds and not just a novelty act.

For a while there, he looked to be achieving that goal.

Nelson followed up his destruction of "The Hybrid" by pasting Stefan Struve in less than a minute at UFC Fight Night 21. I'm willing to give him a pass for getting the stuffing beat out of him by Junior dos Santos because hey, who hasn't looked helpless against "Cigano."

Then came the Frank Mir fight.
I think that loss, coupled with his inability to mount any type of offense against Fabricio Werdum, says a lot about where he stands in this division. Victories over a washed up "Cro Cop" and Dave Her-can do nothing but pad his win/loss record.

The same holds true for Matt Mitrione.
"Meathead' cut his teeth in the same place Nelson blew up, but he didn't have the resume to help get him to the finals. Since that time, he's shown improvement in his overall game, but of the five people he's beaten, only one is still fighting for UFC (Joey Beltran), and "The Mexicutioner" has since dropped down to light heavyweight.

And Matty failed his first big test against Cheick Kongo in October 2011.

In addition to coming up short against the Parisian, Mitrione has been out of action for over a year. Cage rust may not be a big deal when you have 30 fights to your name ... but six? The best thing the former NFL'er has going for him is his heavy hands, but Nelson is notoriously hard to finish.

Submission? Out of the question.
This is Nelson's fight to lose and unless "Big Country" has big cardio problems, he should have this one in the bag.

Final prediction: Nelson def. Mitrione via unanimous decision

170 lbs.: Mike Ricci (7-2) vs. Colton Smith (3-1)

Nostradumbass predicts: If you were making a movie about an MMA fighter rising through the ranks, overcoming adversity to beat the odds and blah, blah, blah, you'd probably cast Colton Smith. I mean c'mon, Colton Smith is a cool-sounding name.

He's also an Army Ranger out of Ft. Hood and a bona fide badass.
Unfortunately this isn't the movies, it's real life, and while Smith looks good on paper, I don't think he has the tools to win the "six-figure contract." I have concerns about his inability to finish anyone in the TUF house (four straight decisions) and prior to joining the ranks of reality TV, he was KTFO on the regional circuit.

Not a good look.
To be fair, Mike Ricci hasn't been perfect in his career, also going limp a few years back -- but that was against Pat Curran in Bellator -- not a 1-1 Steve Montgomery at Championship Fighting Alliance (CFA) in Coral Gables. And did you see "The Martian" zap Neil Magny with that elbow?

Out of this world.
When push comes to shove, it's hard for me to pick against a guy who trains alongside Georges St. Pierre and Rory MacDonald, especially when his opponent is already talking about a future at 155 pounds. I'd be surprised if this fight sees a third round.

Final prediction: Ricci def. Smith via technical knockout

265 lbs.: Pat Barry (7-5) vs. Shane del Rosario (11-1)

Nostradumbass predicts: Pat Barry's team mates held him down and shaved his head, which means the people who train with him every day were convinced he would never make good on his promise to grow his hair out until he won his first UFC fight by way of submission.

Talk about damning evidence.
Not that it matters. For all the talk about his ability as a striker, who has he beaten? He's in the same boat as Mitrione in that three of the four guys he's defeated have either retired or been dismissed, with the exception of Joey Beltran, who dropped to 205 pounds and still came up short inside the Octagon.

And "HD" has been finished convincingly in all five of his losses.
That doesn't bode well against a talented guy like Shane del Rosario, who is just as good as Barry on the feet, but also has the ability to end it by way of submission, like he did against Lavar Johnson under the Strikeforce banner in early 2011.

But can he rebound?
Del Rosario was pounded out by Stipe Miocic in his UFC debut, but keep in mind the Team Oyama product had to overcome Octagon jitters, as well as an extended layoff that came after he was in a car accident that crushed his spine and nearly killed him.

I'm willing to overlook it.
At the end of the day, this fight boils down to the fact that Del Rosario has a ground game and Barry doesn't. When I have to pick between a guy who can pull off an Omoplata versus a guy who tapped to a rear naked choke from Slow Cop, I'll take the Omoplata.

Final prediction: Del Rosario def. Barry via submission

155 lbs.: Melvin Guillard (30-11-2) vs. Jamie Varner (20-7-1)

Nostradumbass predicts: Oh Melvin, what are we going to do with you? In 30 wins as a professional MMA fighter, Guillard has only been able to secure two submissions, the last one coming over 10 years ago, right around the same time as Tank Abbott's loss to Kimo Leopoldo in the co-main event of UFC 43.

Yikes.

What he lacks in grappling prowess he more than makes up for in striking, but now we've seen him KTFO, too, thanks to a sensational comeback by Donald Cerrone last August. That highlight-reel finish dropped Guillard to 1-3 over his last four.

Simply put, the formula for beating him is not that hard to figure out.

The question is, can Jamie Varner get it to the ground before getting put to sleep? He's a terrific wrestler and has the hands to set up a decent takedown attempt, but it's a dangerous proposition as "The Young Assassin" can scramble with the best of them and still packs a wallop.

My biggest concern with "C-4" is his mental state, especially coming off a recent loss to Joe Lauzon.

I'm convinced a focused and steel-willed Varner can hang with anyone is the 155-pound division (see Barboza, Edson), a place he held the strap under the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) banner. Like Guillard, he's been in the fight game for over a decade, but is by far the more complete fighter.

He just has to believe it come fight night.

Final prediction: Varner def. Guillard via submission

145 lbs.: Jonathan Brookins (13-5) vs. Dustin Poirier (12-2)

Nostradumbass predicts: Jonathan Brookins, like Court McGee and Anthony Ferguson, is one of those TUF champions that captured bragging rights for his respective season -- but little else. He drew high praise from coach Georges St. Pierre, yet his UFC run, thus far, has been underwhelming.

The Floridian is 2-2 and coming off a submission loss to Charles Oliveira.

While Brookins has serviceable hands, his real strength is in his ground game, having locked up eight submissions in 13 wins. Ordinarily I'd say that gives him an advantage going into a fight, but it betrayed him against "do Bronx" and I don't think it will be the edge he needs against Dustin Poirier.

The new and improved Dustin Poirier.

"The Diamond" was the first fighter under the ZUFFA banner to expose Josh Grispi as a "Fluke," and following his debut victory, strung together three consecutive wins including a slick brabo choke over Pablo Garza on the undercard of the promotion's FOX 1 extravaganza.

Live by the choke, die by the choke.

Poirier lost for the first time inside the Octagon when Chan Sung Jung strangled him on FUEL TV earlier this year. Undeterred, the star of "Fightville" said goodbye to the boys in Louisiana (finally) and moved to "The Sunshine State" to train with American Top Team (ATT).

Little fish, meet big pond.

I believe Poirier, 4-1 in the UFC and still just 23 years old, is the more talented fighter and if we call them equal on the ground, he's certainly got the edge in the stand up. In addition, he now has a full-fledged training camp complete with experienced veterans who will finally help him realize his potential.

Could be a first rounder.

Final prediction: Poirier def. Brookins via technical knockout

by Steve Lopez- Photo: Chris Farina – Top Rank- The stage is set for Saturday’s Jr. Featherweight showdown between highly favorite WBO Champion Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire and Jorge “Travieso” Arce. Wednesday marked the final press conference where fighters addressed the members of the media and to reinforce what to expect in their performances. The co-featured bout will feature Cuba’s up and coming rising star Guillermo Rigondeaux against Thailand’s Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym.

To show boxing’s global presence with fighters and fans, Wednesday’s conference featured a rather interesting mix of fighter backgrounds: Mexico, Cuba, Thailand and the Philippines. It was no surprise that each fighter, with the exception of Donaire, required a translator to get their points across. I had the privilege to attend the conference and captured some visuals and quotes from each fighter:

Guillermo Rigondeax was a man of few words ready to fight.

“Nothing much to say. We’re ready to get this going.”

“I want to thank everyone for being here. There’s nothing to say at this point in time. Just get in the right and fight.
“It’ll be a great fight for me and a great show.”
Jorge Arce wants to keep the Mexican party going for one more week.

“I’m very excited because this will be the best fight of my life.”
“I don’t want to say anything about who’s going to win. Don’t want to make any predictions or promises to anyone. I just promise a great fight.”
“Donaire is a friend of mine. I admire him. I respect him. Because of the respect and admiration, I’ve prepared like never before.
“What happened with Pacquiao and Marquez last Saturday is going to happen again. The new surprise!”

Nonito Donaire took the podium last to address the media and fans.

“One thing that Arce and I both agree on is that the fight will not go the distance.”
“December 15th is going to get hot in here.”

To reiterate the international theme for the main event fights, Bob Arum casually and jokingly said in between the Poonsawat and Rigondeaux introduction and comments:

“This is great. I bring the fighters up here to talk and neither of them can understand each other.”

HBO Sports rings in the holiday season with an action-packed doubleheader from deep in the heart of Texas when WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING: NONITO DONAIRE VS. JORGE ARCE AND GUILLERMO RIGONDEAUX VS. POONSAWAT KRATINGDAENGGYM is seen SATURDAY, DEC. 15 at 9:30 p.m. (live ET/tape-delayed PT), from the Toyota Center in Houston, exclusively on HBO. The HBO broadcast team of Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant and Roy Jones Jr. will be ringside for the event, which will be available in HDTV, closed-captioned for the hearing-impaired and presented in Spanish on HBO Latino.

This has been the best year ever for British sport, with the Olympics and everything,” he concedes. “And I definitely thought it was going to be my year, too. Instead, I really did miss out.”
In his own fertile mind, Khan had daydreamed about putting the seal on the glorious 12 months by winning an end-of-year Las Vegas super fight, against, say, Floyd Mayweather. Instead, here he is, a mere afterthought in the year of years, beginning his ring comeback tonight with no great fanfare in a non-title feature against the unbeaten but unthreatening Carlos Molina in Los Angeles.

Yet Khan still feels humbled that it was the astonishing embrace of the London Olympic crowds which helped him to clamber back to his feet and take this first key step in the latest reinvention of his career following his shattering defeat by Danny Garcia in their world light-welterweight unification bout in July.
Khan had suffered that fourth-round hammering just a fortnight before the Games started, leaving more than a few critics speculating that this third loss, and second in succession after the controversial reverse to Lamont Peterson, might be career-ending. “It was a hard one to overcome at the time. I was feeling so bad, trying to come to terms with it all,” Khan concedes.

Yet a commentary spell with the BBC at the Games brought release from the self-recrimination for a man who had once been a teenage Olympic sensation himself. “I thought people would be upset with me and that I’d be losing fans, but it turned out to be the total opposite. The Olympic Park was crazy. Whenever I did interviews there, it was packed full of people, waving to me, cheering and wanting to shake my hand. Having the support of the British public at that time helped me get that confidence back. It made a massive difference, knowing there were so many people behind you, still supporting you.”

He felt the love throughout the astonishing sporting summer here, whether it be from the aspiring young fighters in the £1 million gym he built back home in Bolton or from the kids who he has been inspiring around the country with his involvement in the StreetGames community charity projects.

And they brought his smile back. There is something irrepressible about Khan; he offers an ebullient impression that his belief in himself has not diminished one iota. 2012 won’t be a wash out, he is adamant, because the Garcia defeat made him see with painful clarity where he was going wrong – too complacent, too swayed by the Los Angeles celebrity whirl and not focussed enough – and forced him to rebuild his sporting life more studiously.

So he ditched his illustrious trainer Freddie Roach, who he felt was not giving him his full care and attention, and turned to Virgil Hunter, the man who has guided the career of the exceptional Andre Ward, arguably the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Instead of Los Angeles, whose bright lights wooed him, Khan says he feels chilled and focussed in his new quieter San Francisco base.
“The lifestyle out here is slower, not so much going on but having fewer distractions has really helped me. Now, I just live and eat boxing. I wake up, I think about boxing. I go to sleep and all I think about the next day’s training. It’s exactly what I needed.” The result? “I’ve changed my style to become a more complete fighter.”
Utilising Hunter’s exhaustive attention to detail in breaking down and correcting defensive deficiencies, Khan says he will become more patient, more selective and accurate in his attacks, no longer to be drawn into macho toe-to-toe dust-ups when a more cerebral approach, with his technical skill and speed, suffices.
Whether in seething battle, he can be somehow persuaded to keep his head above the red mist so that his rare gifts can be used most effectively, remains the $64,000 question. If he can, Khan, for all the resurfacing of familiar doubts about his punch resistance emanating from the Garcia pummelling, is convinced he can still achieve his quest to be an all-time great.

“I feel like a battle-scarred veteran now, I really do, but I’m only 26, there’s so much more to achieve. My ultimate ambition is to be recognised as one of the great boxers of my generation.”
That superfight he dreamed of this year? Khan accepts there is a danger of looking too far ahead but cannot resist the thought that, this time next year, he could be handing the great Mayweather his first defeat. “I definitely believe in my heart of hearts that I can beat him and it’s all about timing in this game. Mayweather is dipping a little bit; he’s been in prison and I don’t think he’ll be the same. Time will tell. Time to catch him.”

So never mind 2012; next year is going to be another extraordinary whirl for one of Britain’s most important sports figures. Khan is getting married in May, will start up his own charitable foundation and begin running his own new promotions company. He believes the Amir Khan “brand” is strong enough not to need the legend “world champion” after his name but that title still means everything to him.
“Well, I’ve given the Olympians the chance to enjoy their sporting year,” Khan says with a smile. “Now, 2013 will be mine.”

Every time UFC puts on an event, speculation, questions and theories arise about which fighters will perform ... or underperform. Will new contenders emerge? Will established ones fall? Where will the winners go? Which losers will still have a job on Monday? Who is healthy? Who is fighting injured? Anytime the UFC athletes are set to enter the Octagon, questions swirl

This Friday night (Dec. 14, 2012), the Octagon travels down under for the second time this year with UFC on FX 6: "Sotiropoulos vs. Pearson" from the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

A lightweight contest receives top billing as The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): The Smashes coaches George Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson square off in the main event of the evening. There are several interesting storylines to follow going into and coming out of the event, but only four can make the "burning" list.

That being said, here are four burning questions going into UFC on FX 6: "Sotiropoulos vs. Pearson" this weekend:

4. Is this Joey Beltran's final stand?

The last time Joey Beltran was seen inside the UFC Octagon was at UFC on FUEL TV 4 back in July when he was on the wrong end of a savage beating from James Te Huna. The bout was Beltran's first in the UFC at light heavyweight and his first since being brought back to the organization after a short-lived release.

While Beltran delivers exciting fights as seen in his ‘Fight of the Night' effort against Te Huna, his UFC run has been mediocre at best, compiling a 3-5 record inside the Octagon. The career-changing move from the heavyweight division down to 205 pounds was the right one, but to stay in the UFC, Beltran needs to win fights.

With three UFC losses in a row, Beltran is lucky to be getting another fight. But since he took the Te Huna fight on short notice, "The Mexicutioner" was given another fight inside the Octagon and takes on Igor Pokrajac in the preliminary portion of the UFC on FX 6 fight card this weekend.

Beltran is by no means going to be a title contender at light heavyweight, but there is certainly a contingent of fans that like watching him compete. A win over Pokrajac would be the biggest of his career and earn him at least one more fight with the UFC. A loss, though, would likely be cause for the 31-year-old to get his walking papers once again.

3. Who will become the TUF: ‘Australia vs. UK' tournament winner?

For the first time, UFC went overseas with its hit reality show "The Ultimate Fighter." The season featured a cast split into two regions, Australia vs. the United Kingdom, and was titled "The Smashes."

Knockouts, submission and back-and-forth wars were a common theme throughout the 13-episode show.

After winning two fights each to advance to the finals, a welterweight and lightweight champion will be crowned as England's Brad Scott takes on Australia's Robert Whittaker at 170 pounds and Norman Parke meets Colin Fletcher in the all-UK 155-pound final.

Scott got to the finals of the show the hard way, defeating Xavier Lucas and Benny Alloway by decision. Whittaker earned first-round finishes over Luke Newman and Xavier Lucas (who returned to the tournament as an injury replacement) to complete his journey to UFC on FX 6. Whittaker displayed strong striking and submission skills that he will surely be looking to use to his advantage against Scott.

In the lightweight finals, Fletcher is coming off one of the most impressive showings of the season as he easily dominated opponents in his path to the live finale. Fletcher is the favorite coming into the bout, and is one of the fighters on the show with a lot of potential moving forward with his fighting style and unique personality. His opponent, Parke, will try to make it a rough beginning to Fletcher's UFC career by pulling off the upset.

On Friday night, UFC history will be made with two new "TUF" winners will be crowned. Who will they be?

2. Which lightweight will win their way back into relevancy?

While they are only fighting in the main event because of coaching The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), the UFC is providing two down-on-their-luck lightweights in Georges Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson with a serious opportunity to pump a breath of fresh air into their careers.

Pearson moves back up to the lightweight division after a two-fight stint at featherweight where he went 1-1. The Brit relished the opportunity to teach young fighters on TUF and believes coaching the reality show gave him a new perspective on his career that will benefit him going forward.

Sotiropoulos has not competed since a knockout loss to Rafael Dos Anjos in July 2011 and looks to rebound with a big win in his home country of Australia. After starting his UFC career with seven consecutive wins, the 35-year-old has dropped two in a row and needs a win to show he is still capable of competing at the highest level.

By no means is the Pearson vs. Sotiropoulos winner in line for a title shot. In reality, a win won't even place the winner in the top-15 at 155 pounds, but after suffering multiple disappointing defeats or going through a long layoff, the victor will at least place their name back in the minds of UFC fans, especially if they deliver a dominant performance.

1. Can Hector Lombard live up to the hype in his second Octagon appearance?

Everyone and their mother were disappointed by Hector Lombard's UFC debut against Tim Boetsch last July.

Coming into the UFC as one of the hottest free agents on the market and being hyped as a knockout specialist, Lombard's performance against Boetsch at UFC 149 -- a split decision defeat -- was nothing short of a letdown.

The Cuban was tentative in the fight and did not deliver the type of violence fans have come to expect of him while he racked up a 32-2-1 record with one "No Contest" in other organizations such as CFC, AFC and Bellator.

Fortunately for Lombard, the mixed martial arts (MMA) community has a short-term memory and all it will take for everyone to forget his debut is to put on a stellar performance against Rousimar Palhares at UFC on FX 6 this Friday night.

While every fight in the sport is a "must-win," the phrase rings especially true for the 34-year-old because he was hyped as a title contender coming into the UFC. If he loses again, especially in underwhelming fashion, it makes him look like a joke and his future with the organization will be up in the air.

Will Campuzano (10-4) and Jimmy Flick (5-0) will give it another try.
After their initial fight was scratched, the 125-pounders have been rebooked for Legacy Fighting Championship 16, where they'll fight for the organization's inaugural flyweight title.

The event takes place Dec. 14 at Allen Events Center in Allen, Texas, and the main card airs on AXS TV.

Campuzano initially was slated to fight Chad Robichaux for the vacant belt at Legacy FC 12 in July. However, a tough weight cut and kidney issues forced Robichaux out of the bout a day prior, and the title fight was pulled from the card altogether. Campuzano then was slated to fight Flick at Legacy FC 13 this past month, but Campuzano was forced off the card with an injury.

Campuzano, a former UFC and WEC bantamweight, was bounced from Zuffa following back-to-back losses to Nick Pace and Chris Cariaso in early 2011. However, he got back in the win column with a first-round submission victory over Randy Hinds in April 2011, and most recently, he knocked out Joshua Sampo with a head kick at a regional show in May.

Flick, who's just two years into his pro career, submitted Adan de la Garza in June at a regional show in Texas. The Oklahoma-born and Texas-based wrestler, who also went 7-0 as an amateur, now has three submission wins in five career pro victories. He made his pro debut at Bellator 20, where he topped Humberto DeLeon via decision.

Also slated for Legacy FC 16 is a bantamweight bout between Nelson Salas (4-0) and Eli Tamez (4-0). The fighters first met as amateurs, and Tamez won via first-round submission.

MONTREAL (December 12, 2012) – Only two more days before Laval’s popular Jean Pascal (26-2-1, 16 KOs) finally returns to the ring at the Bell Centre in Montreal, away since his heart-breaking loss 19 months ago to Bernard Hopkins, which cost him his World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight title belt.
Contrary to his normally calm approach to a fight, Pascal feels anxious and nervous over his time away from the ring going into Friday night’s fight against an opponent who also boxed in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, as Pascal did, 2004 Polish Olympian Aleksy Kuziemski (26-2-1, 16 KOs). It is not the fear of his opponent’s attack – Pascal has never been afraid of another fighter – rather the anxiety of having lost his bearings, not being able to fulfill the expectations of the loyal Quebec public. He is well prepared, as skilled as ever, and he will give his best effort on Friday night.
Pascal’s potential world title fight on HBO against WBC World Champion Chad Dawson, at least for now, remains down the road. All that Pascal is focused on right now is Friday, Dec.14, and his tough European opponent.

Lemieux against Russian Ayrapetyan
As previously announced, Friday evening’s co-feature will showcase relentless Montreal slugger David Lemieux (27-2-1, 26 KOs) in a 10-round fight. His opponent is 31-year-old Russian Alberto Ayrapetyan (20-3-0, 9 KOs), who resides and fights out of Germany. Ayrapetyan has suffered only one defeat before the limit, losing to the great middleweight champion of the world, Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez, in the 11th round of their WBC Latino Championship fight. Ayrapetyan, as Lemieux, is of Armenian origin. Lemieux speaks French, English, Armenian, Spanish and Arabic; Ayrapetyan is also multilingual, according to his Facebook page, fluent in German, Spanish, Portuguese, Armenian and Russian. These two should find it easy to understand each other the ring.

Alvarez vs. 2011 European champion Danny “The Big Mac” McIntosh
Englishman Danny “Big Mac” McIntosh (13-3-0, 7 KOs), 32, will challenge talented North American Boxing Association (NABA) lightweight champion Eleider “Storm” Alvarez (10-0-0, 6 KOs). McIntosh was the Great Britain light heavyweight champion from 2008 to 2009, as well as European titlist in 2011. He lost his last two fights by technical knockout in valiant efforts against aspiring world champions. In May of 2011, he lost his European title in the eighth round to Eduard Gutknect (24-1-0, 9 KOs) in Germany. The judges’ scoring indicated a close fight going into the eighth round. In a similarly contested fight last April in Liverpool, England, McIntosh was stopped in the fifth round by his United Kingdom compatriot, Tony Bellew (19-1-0, 16 KOs). McIntosh’s three career losses (his other defeat was to current World Boxing Organization 175-pound champion Nathan Cleverly) have been to some of the best light heavyweights in the world.

“Storm has so much talent and determination,” said Alvarez’ promoter, GYM president Yvon Michel, “it has been tempting to move him faster. He has demonstrated that, despite having had only 10 professional fights, he can do as good as the best in the light heavyweight division, even against those with twice his experience.”

Bizier, McGuinness and Rivas, confirmed opponent
Quebec favorite Kevin Bizier (18-0-0, 13 KOs) will back into the ring for the second time this year, matched Friday night with welterweight Doel “Amish Guy” Carrasquillo (16-22-1, 14 KOs), of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Toronto’s unbeaten Logan McGuinness (18-0-1, 9 KOs), a protégé of Adam Harris (Hennessy Sports Canada), will defend his NABA super featherweight title against Carlos Manuel Reyes (23-1-1, 15 KOs), from the Dominican Republic.

Quebec heavyweight Oscar Rivas (11-0-0, 6 KOs), who has fully recovered from a recent hand injury, takes on 36-year-old Hungarian invader Lazlo Peczeli (4-2-1, 3 KOs).
The opening fights on the stacked “Fast & Furious” card pits spectacular featherweight prospect Marc “Gwapo” Pagcaliwangan (1-0-0, 1 KO), fighting for the second time straight time in Montreal, against Hungarian boxer Richard Voros (4 -10-0, 1 KO), followed by heavyweight battle between Ottawa favorite Andrew Gardiner (5-0-0, 2 KOs) and Attila Nagy Tibor (4-5-0, 3 KOs), of Budapest, Hungary.
Friday night’s event will be available for viewing by fans in the comfort of their homes via Canal Indigo, Bell TV, Shaw TV in Canada, as well as on WealthTV in the United States.
Tickets for the Dec. 14 event at the Bell Centre are on sale now, as well as for the three remaining GYM boxing series shows this season, the innovative and popular “Fast and Furious.” Tickets, starting at $36.00, are available to purchase at the Bell Centre, or at evenko.ca, or by calling GYM at (514) 383.0666. Despite the magnitude of The Return of Jean Pascal, GYM resisted the urge to raise ticket prices.

About Groupe Yvon Michel Inc:

So, it looks like the time has finally come for the little brother to step out of his big brother's shadow and be the first of the Diaz clan to fight for a UFC title belt.

Truth be told, it is long overdue.
While Nick Diaz has been wowing crowds and blowing golden opportunities, Nate has been “playing the game” and fighting hard, polishing his style to the level of a world-class fighter.

His submissions have never been sharper, and his stand up is better than it’s ever been, clearly rivaling that of his elder sibling. Of course, his love of the fight—any fight, anytime—is so clearly abundant that you know he’s going to go for the finish whenever he can.

And if he were fighting anyone else in the division, he would probably have better than even chances to be the first member of “The Scrap Pack” to bring home UFC gold.

But he’s fighting Benson Henderson, and given the style and intelligence of the champion—and styles always, always make fights—he’s going to end up losing his title bid thanks to being on the receiving end of a fairly one-sided beat-down for one main reason alone.

Like his brother, he just can’t seem to stop takedowns.
In Henderson, he will be facing a fighter who will be able to not only match him in the area of conditioning, but will be the faster fighter of the two and will be more active, pushing a fierce pace.

Granted, if Henderson is foolish enough to stand up with Diaz all night long, he’ll lose, just like BJ Penn lost to Nick Diaz, but Henderson isn’t that foolish.

He’ll use feints and he’ll be circling around the often flat-footed Diaz, snatching up takedowns and then working at a fast clip with ground-and-pound, maintaining a solid top position to keep Diaz under him and on the defensive for as long as he can.

And that will probably be a pattern that is repeated over and over in the fight, resulting in a TKO, a cut stoppage or a lopsided decision for the champion.

It is odd to consider all of this, because I honestly think Diaz is better at striking and submissions, which are two of the main cornerstones of MMA. But Henderson is far more athletic and agile, and he looks to be one of those men who gets better as they hold the belt.

Were Diaz faster, or if he had far better takedown defense, then this would be a different story, one that would see him winning the title, but he isn’t and he doesn’t, and that is where the clash of styles leaves him handcuffed behind his back.

Honestly, I feel that a man like Nate Diaz would be great for the division and the sport if he were a UFC champion. His all-action, all-the-time style is just impossible not to fall in love with, but this is still a sport where wrestling matters greatly, and that is his shortcoming.

This should still be a great night for Nate, simply because he’s the first of his family to vie for the belt, but when all is said and done, Henderson is going home with the gold, once again.
